Why Getting Your Steps In Is the Most Underrated Thing You Can Do Right Now

As the weather improves, one of the simplest things you can do for your fitness and mental health is just move more.

Now that we’re coming out of winter, everything starts to feel a bit easier.

The days are longer, the weather improves, and suddenly getting outside doesn’t feel like a chore anymore. This is honestly one of the best times of year to reset a few habits without overcomplicating things.

One of the simplest things I recommend to clients at this time of year is just this:

Get your steps in.

It sounds basic, but it’s massively underrated.

Walking more each day improves your fitness, helps with fat loss, boosts your energy, and, probably most importantly, does wonders for your head. If you’ve had a long day at work, getting outside for 20 to 30 minutes can completely change how you feel.

I’ve had loads of clients tell me that what started as “just getting a few more steps in” ended up becoming the thing that kept them consistent. It’s low pressure, easy to fit into your day, and doesn’t feel like a full workout.

And that’s the key.

Not everything needs to feel intense to be effective.

You don’t always need a full session. Sometimes it’s a walk after dinner. Sometimes it’s getting off the train a stop earlier. Sometimes it’s choosing to move instead of sitting on the sofa scrolling for another hour.

It all counts.

This time of year is perfect for building that habit because it doesn’t feel forced. You’re not dragging yourself out into the cold and dark. You’re just taking advantage of better days.

If you want to take it a step further, you can pair it with something simple. Grab a coffee, listen to a podcast, or just use it as a bit of time to switch off. It doesn’t need to be complicated to work.

And as always, if you want a bit more structure alongside it, I’m here to help. But if all you do this week is get outside and move a bit more, you’re already heading in the right direction.

Simple, consistent movement goes a long way.
